How we compare & source our data
Transparency first: exactly where our numbers come from and how we rank.
Last updated: 13 June 2026
Offers and prices
We gather the live offer of large, reliable tour operators and accommodation providers through official product feeds. That offer is refreshed every day, so the prices you see reflect what is actually bookable. We do not sell trips ourselves: you book directly and safely with the operator, with full travel protection.
Ski-area data (pistes & lifts)
For every ski area we calculate the number of lifts and the total kilometres of marked downhill piste from OpenStreetMap, the open, community-maintained map of the world. We count passenger lifts (gondolas, chairlifts, drag lifts) and sum the length of all downhill piste segments inside each area. Because this is open data, figures can differ slightly from an operator's marketing numbers.
Snow & climate
Historical snow depth for ski areas, and monthly air temperature, sea temperature and hours of sunshine for sun destinations, come from Open-Meteo (ERA5 reanalysis and marine data), averaged over recent years. They show a realistic picture of what to expect, not a forecast for a specific date.
How we rank
Within a destination we sort accommodations on relevance and price for the traveller — by default the lowest price first, with the option to sort by rating. We never rank a result higher because it pays us more.
Affiliate & independence
Nivosola is free to use. When you book with an operator through a link on our site, we may receive a commission (an affiliate fee). That fee funds the site and our editorial work, and has no effect on the price you pay — it is the same as booking directly. Our comparisons and rankings are based on relevance and price for you, never on the size of a commission. Links that lead to a partner are marked as sponsored.
